How it started: The Turbokiller
The first conceptual product was invented by, ir.drs. Jan Tholen, who had a lifetime career in water treatment and had built multiple drinking water plants. At that time, it was called The Turbokiller - a somewhat bold name. But despite this, The Turbokiller was introduced in the market in 2001.
With the Turbokiller, Jan not only won the Dutch DSM Innovation Price in the early 2000s, but 2 patents for his innovative technique as well.
What made it unique was that the salt electrolysis technique had previously only been applied on an industrial scale. Jan made sure that this technology became accessible for household use.
Name change to Sensiblue
So, he continuously improved product, which led to type 2 (Model 312) and type 3 (Model 315), both achieving sales of several hundred units worldwide, without the support of a large sales and marketing organization. In 2012 they decided to change the name in Sensiblue.
From father to son
Because of the modest success and the fact that it was time for Jan to enjoy his retirement, his son Wirijn decided to take over the good work Jan had started. Wirijn quit his job as a manager in logistics in 2021 to lead Sensiblue into the future.
How it’s going
After 20 years of development and testing, with already 1.200 units installed worldwide and a new patent granted in 2024, the latest model, the Sensiblue S4, is ready to serve!
We are ready for the next phase; launching in Europe and the United States at a larger scale. Eventually, we aim to ensure that the entire world has access to safe tap water.
